Development has continued for some time. There are some graphical assets finished as well as just over 250 lines of code. A lot went into the design, so of course, a lot will go into asset production and programming. So there's still a very long way to go before the game is done.

The design stage is over and a new game is in development. I don't want to announce it yet, because I'm not sure how far development will go, but right now assets are being made.

THE RELEASE OF CONSOLE MAKER - 8 February, 2023

Yes, you read that right. I finally finished developing Console Maker. Continue reading for some more information.

What took so long???

During development, I kept on changing the game's concept, scrapping content, and starting over. By February 5th I was tired of it and decided to simplify the concept, and move the project forward. The concept was so simple, I finished development in 3 days, and there were just over 600 lines of code.

What's next?

First of all, I'll switch to a different engine. Console Maker was made in Blitz3D, and it will be the last game I make with that engine. I really only used it because of this idea that it would be cool if this studio's first game was made in the engine it was named after. But I don't even like using it anymore. There are a few reasons. The editor is ugly to look at. If you've ever seen it, you know what I mean. And I don't really like Blitz BASIC. Or really any BASIC programming languages...

Next, I'll take a break for a while. I might release some updates for the game, but I'd honestly rather move on. Later, I guess it'll be time to start my next project.

Head on over to the game's page to play the game!

I just thought I'd give an update on the state of Console Maker. It's going well, and I'm halfway toward a fully playable version. I know it's taking a while. I want the game to be finished too.

I did get the Blitz version to work by removing all the 3D elements of the game. 3D games don't work so well, but 2D games work fine.

This is going to be tough to explain, but here goes. While developing Console Maker, I thought that it would be fitting for Blitz Studio's first game to be made with Blitz3D, because even though it's for newbies, I did name the studio after it. The game worked perfectly in the editor, and I had never tested it as a standalone executable until today. And when I did, I remembered why I never released anything I made with Blitz3D.

Executables made with Blitz work perfectly on Windows XP, but on Windows 10, there are some issues that you'll run into. It's not just my game that experiences this issue. Most games I've tried to play that were made in Blitz are slow and buggy on Windows 10, but just fine on XP.

So I think I'll end up having to leave the Blitz code behind, and start fresh. It's not fun, but on the bright side, there were only 624 lines of code, which by game development standards isn't very much.

I'm back. While I was gone, I had a lot of time to think about the development of Vengeance. To be honest, at first, I thought I'd have something to bring to the side-scroller shooter genre, but as development continued, I realized... once you've seen one of them, you've basically seen all of them. So I abandoned it.

So what have I been doing all this time? Aside from dealing with the "personal stuff" I mentioned in the last news post, I thought of a much more original concept. I decided to make a game where the player is in charge of a console manufacturing company. I worked at a surprisingly quick pace, and the assets are done, all that's left is programming. For all the originality in the concept, I couldn't come up with a unique name. So... I called it Console Maker. I'll show you a sneak peek at the main menu, though.
